From Strength to Strength

I’ve just finished reading Arthur Brooks’ book From Strength to Strength, and it deeply resonated with me (thank you Gregory Rubin for the tip). The central message is clear: life has two halves, and fulfillment comes when we recognize the transition from one to the other.
In the first half, many of us thrive on fluid intelligence — ambition, innovation, achievement. But over time, what brings the greatest meaning is not “more of the same,” but a shift toward crystallized intelligence — wisdom, mentoring, teaching, and deeper connections.
Brooks reminds us that the real strength of the second half lies in service, love, and purpose, rather than endless striving.
This reflection feels especially relevant to me right now, as I embrace this transition personally and professionally — in my journey as a coach/mentor, as a KOMPASSIUM partner, and as a Leela Life Guide.
* Leela means “the play of life.” It is the invitation to see our path not only as a pursuit of goals, but as a dance of purpose, joy, and presence. This perspective is deeply aligned with how I support individuals and organizations: helping them redefine success, embrace change, and create lasting fulfillment.
* The question I now carry with me:
“How can I best use my experience, not just for achievement, but for impact?”
💬 If this reflection resonates with you, I’d love to connect and exchange insights on navigating life’s second half with more purpose and clarity.
